Creative Recycled Lighting.... A Plastic Chandelier

As seen in my favorite holiday haunt, the Bachman's Idea House in Minneapolis, I absolutely loved this lighting treatment in the 'kids' room.
  1. First a wire form is fitted over the low-watt light bulb. This form is a white coated metal in a circular shape. (I think some colorful blue tissue paper is tucked in around the form for color)
  2. Next plastic beverage bottles are cut in a spiral and colored.
  3. Hung from the wire form, the recycled plastic spirals make a really unique and effective lighting treatment!
You'd think it's a blown-glass chandelier by Chihuly.

What a great way for kids to lend a hand in decorating their rooms!

Ballerina Bags

One of my favorite past times is using up my excess fabric and tulle scraps I've got laying around. Sitting down to tackle some of my surplus, I designed this ballerina bag/ tote with three beautiful layers of gathered tulle.

It's a perfect size for ballet shoes, tights and dance class accoutrement.

I'm thrilled with the design... pretty enough to wear!

It's beginning to look a lot like....

Dare I say it? .... Christmas?
It's already started and I'm as guilty as Target. It started with a x-mas banner I added to my Etsy store last week, but as all retailers do, I got very excited about all of my new products! I've listed some new photos below to show off some of the fun new things I'm offering for a limited time.

Felt and fabric Christmas Tree Table Toppers

Buttons and felt accents really pop!

They're perfect on top of a dresser, TV or kitchen counter.

Tulle Christmas Tree

They are putsy to make, but they are so worth it!

Now working on a small grove to show off how gorgeous they are clustered.

The Lemon Party

Last week I had the fortune to attend a "31" shopping party with a twist. My hostess, who always goes 110% when entertaining put together a gorgeous get-together themed the evening around "Lemon Drops".... Here are just some pictures that might inspire you to hold your own "citrus" night.

The "piece-de-resistance" was a homemade vanilla cake with lemon curd and blueberry filling, topped with homemade butter creme frosting in graduated shades of yellow.

My personal favorite... lemon jello shots.

Everything set out circled back to the theme.

The roses set the tone.

Salivating yet?

A Magician In The Making

I love a girl that's not afraid to show her strength.
Decked out in a princess hat, Whimsy Wendy tutu and wand, this little peanut is stopping a troll from crossing the bridge.

Setting A Table

I was recently asked to help decorate a theme table for a WAMSO fundraiser called "Settings of Note"... and I had so much fun. Traditionally most of the tables in the past included a lot of traditional or french provincial flairs. I wanted to come up with something that was unusual, whimsy-wendy-ish, and colorful!

I started with a inspiration of a large brewers jug, of which I had the bottom cut off. That started my whole theme of a "fairy garden tea party'. Who doesn't dream of catching a fairy like a fire fly? Here's how my table unfolded:
The table cloth is a swath of golden raw silk. It did a beautiful job of setting off the dishes (see below). I was worried that I didn't have enough stuff for the table but it turns out I had to bring things home!

My Whimsy Wendy original design... my giant party puffs really helped the table pop!

Felt and fabric strawberry pie set on a milk glass pie plate looked good enough to eat. I had found a pattern months ago and was waiting for a good time to try it!

This picture makes the glass dome look tipsy, put it was resting on a lush mat of moss hot glued on Styrofoam. The dome was encircled by three clothes lines of fairy dresses donated by Sticky Pixies... mini clothes pins included!

You can't have a tea party without a tea pot, and you can't have a Whimsy Wendy table without my mini wands. Individual wands were set at each table setting as a party favor.

I already came up with my 'theme' for next years event... shhhhhh!

Bulletin Board... with a creative twist.

I recently visited the Spring Bachman's Idea House in Minneapolis and found this darling twist on the traditional cork board in one of the sitting rooms. I love the twist of using inexpensive change purses to use as organizing pockets. A slim basket was hung for additional paper storage. The burlap background is always a steal and really adds some charm to the board. Very cute!

Where's the time gone?

Poof! I woke up and realized it's May. Where does the time go?
I've saved up a bunch of photos for blog ideas I've been trying to sit down to post. I'll put a few out at a time. This should be fun!

The following are pictures I took from a girlfriend's birthday celebration. What a spread! What a cake! Find a similar recipe at this link:

This cake was the center of the festivities. How pretty!

The theme of the party...Pink!
